FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Recurrent retinal detachment can occur after silicone oil removal following retinal detachment surgery. A study investigating risk factors found previous silicone oil exchange as the only significant association.
“Despite advances in surgical technique and equipment, the rate of retinal re-detachment following [silicone oil removal] is high. Few studies have examined potential risk factors, with conflicting results,” Matthew R. Starr, MD, said at the Retina World Congress.
The retrospective analysis included 205 eyes with silicone oil tamponade during
