Koen van Besien, MD, PhD, has been appointed chief of the division of hematology at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center.
He also will serve as director of Wesley Center for Immunotherapy, which generates chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies, natural killer cell therapies and other cellular-based therapies.
His appointment is effective July 15.
Van Besien is recognized for his contributions to the fields of cell therapy and stem cell transplantation. His group reported the first successful transplant for a patient with HIV and leukemia using a haplo-cord graft. The patient has
